Douse (“Douse,” “we,” “us”) is a quit-smoking app created by Rafael Ferri. This policy explains what information the app handles and how. Our approach is simple: the personal things you write in Douse stay on your device.
The content you create in Douse — journal entries, logged cravings and slips, daily check-ins, your reasons for quitting, your craving plan, triggers, tactics, quit/start dates, streaks, quests, and app preferences (such as theme and reminders) — is saved locally on your device. It is not transmitted to us or to any server, and it is not backed up to us. If you delete the app, or use “Start over” inside the app, this data is removed from the device.
Douse offers an optional subscription, “Douse Plus.” Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store; we never receive or store your payment card details. To deliver and restore subscriptions, we use RevenueCat, Inc., a subscription-management service. RevenueCat processes purchase and subscription information (such as the products you buy, subscription status, and transaction identifiers), an anonymous app-generated identifier, and limited technical information (such as device type, country, and app/SDK version). We use this only to unlock Douse Plus features, restore your purchase across devices, and understand overall subscription performance. We do not use it for advertising. If you enable Apple Health sync and grant permission, Douse writes “mindful minutes” sessions (representing the calming/breathing time you spend riding out a craving) to Apple Health. Douse does not read any of your Apple Health data. Health information stays in Apple Health on your device; it is not sent to us or to any third party. We never use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing. You can turn this off any time in the app or in Apple Health.
Reminders and check-in nudges are scheduled locally on your device. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read your quit data from the device to display it. None of this involves sending your data to us.
We do not use third-party advertising or ad-tracking. We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not build advertising profiles about you. Douse’s buddies/social elements are for encouragement within the app and do not publish your journal or personal content.
On-device data remains until you delete it (via “Start over”) or uninstall the app. Subscription records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained according to their policies; you may request deletion of RevenueCat data by contacting us and we will pass along the request.
Douse is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Because your personal content stays on your device, its security is tied to your device’s own protections (passcode, biometrics, encryption). Data exchanged with Apple and RevenueCat is transmitted over encrypted connections.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
